Past and Present
It’s amazing how quickly it all goes. You’re always told, but you never believe it until you realise it’s really happening. I always think that you shouldn’t look back and remember a time when you were happiest because it somehow seems ungrateful to what you have right now, the only time that’s really real in any tangible sense. However, I suspect that like me everyone can think of a time that stood out as the favourite or at least most fondly remembered part of their life. Although it seems ungrateful, perhaps it is just that part of your existence which most helped define you as you are now and therefore it seems only right to remember it fondly. The only harm is in wishing you could go back. Either for the sake of having another chance to somehow make it better or because you aren’t happy with the way you are living right now. How could you hope to make the time you remember as the best part of your life any better when it really couldn’t have been more perfect if you’d planned it that way. And how can you hope to make the time you have at the moment any better if you’re wishing for another chance at the past instead of making the most of now.

Nostalgia
On the hill that leads me down,
Driving through my old home town,
I’m overwhelmed with sick nostalgia,
Or perhaps it was just that seafood chowder.

Some of the rubbish
Some of the rubbish I put outside for the men to take away. Some of the rubbish I keep in my house so I will know where it is, most of the time. Sometimes I worry that I have got it the wrong way around and I am keeping rubbish in the house that should be outside. Or worse, that the rubbish I put outside should have stayed in the house. I say that it is worse, I am not really sure which way around is worse. Maybe all of the rubbish should be outside, although then the outside would be a mess like in my house. Sometimes I see rubbish outside that I want and I take it to put in my house. Sometimes putting the rubbish that is in the house into places where I can’t see it makes me feel better, even though I know it is all still in there somewhere. Sometimes I like to have all of the rubbish where I can see it, so at least I know where it all is.

It's Now
It’s tears from feeling love, it’s comfort taken after fright,
It’s wasting time all day, it’s staying up all night,
It’s the bitter taste, it’s the familiar smell,
It’s words we hear, it’s truths we tell,
It’s the expected sight, it’s the happy sound,
It’s what we’ve lost, it’s things we’ve found,
It’s a sad smile, it’s a misread frown,
It’s feeling high, it’s coming down,
It’s an unhappy thought, it’s a sudden thrill,
It’s time passing, it’s standing still,
It’s what we do, it’s how,
It’s here, it’s now.
